Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Navman’s new Qube vehicle tracking device has been approved for use on vehicles transporting  hazardous materials and areas with “potentially explosive atmospheres”. Up until now companies operating within the petrochem industry have been largely excluded from enjoying the security and business benefits of telematics and fleet management technologies.

The Qube meets the Essential Health and Safety Requirements for Category 3G of the ATEX directive, the fundamental legal requirement relating to the safety, health and welfare of workers in areas where explosive atmospheres may occur.

One of the UK’s leading haulage companies has installed fleet tracking technology to it’s entire fleet of 75 vehicles. Knights of Old have invested in the technology to boost productivity and reduce fuel costs.

The M-Nav 650 vehicle tracking system provided by Navman Wireless combines tracking, navigation and messaging services.

Paul Abbott, Operations Director at Knights of Old, said;

“We have seen some significant benefits such as reduced mileage and we are starting to see a reduction in fuel use.

“It has also improved the communication between the office and drivers and enabled operators to make better decisions when allocating vehicles to work.

“I certainly think the savings we look set to make more than pay for the cost of the equipment.”
