Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) have fitted 5,200 vehicle tracking devices into its fleet of tankers. The aim is to use vehicle tracking to improve logistic efficiency as well as reducing fuel costs.

The system uses a built in GPS device and mapping tool to track the trucks across 8,300 outlets. Data is sent back to a central server which keeps track of all the vehicles in real time. The vehicle tracking system also raises an alarm if the driver deviate from predetermined routes or makes an abrupt stop.

S. Radhakrishnan, Director (Marketing), said the data generated from the tracking systems will help in a more effective and efficient management of the logistics business.
